The Government's Reversal on Net Zero Commitment: Our Stance

At Oxwash, we typically avoid discussing our political stance publicly. However, we are deeply concerned by the government's recent decision to delay Net Zero targets. We strongly believe that there is no time to waste in the face of an accelerating climate crisis.

Sustainability

We are deeply concerned about the recent decision made by the government to delay its Net Zero targets. This setback in the fight against climate change sends a dangerous message to the rest of the world. We do not have the luxury of delaying action in an accelerating velocity towards climate collapse.

At Oxwash, we remain committed to reducing carbon emissions to Net Zero without delay. We have set ambitious Science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Oxwash has made significant progress towards its targets, reducing its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 63% from baseline and is on track to achieve a 97% reduction by the end of 2024. We have achieved this through initiatives such as switching from natural gas to biogas, innovating novel cleaning methods and IP and investing in sustainable technologies and equipment. These solutions are market-ready and available to other businesses and industries, and we strongly encourage our peers to take similar action to reduce their carbon emissions.

It is essential for businesses to lead the way in addressing the climate crisis, even if governments are not doing enough. The previous plans by the government were already inadequate, and according to the Climate Change Committee, actions were too slow to meet Net zero by 2030. The decision to push back these targets even further puts the planet and people in peril.

As a responsible business, Oxwash recognises the importance of creating a sustainable future for all our stakeholders, including our customers, employees, and shareholders. We are committed to taking proactive steps towards protecting the planet and ensuring that future generations can enjoy a healthy and thriving environment.

In light of this, we feel it is our duty to urge the government to reconsider its decision regarding the Net Zero target. We believe that a more ambitious target would be necessary to address the urgent climate challenges we face and to deliver a sustainable future for all. We remain committed to working with all our customers, investors and partners to achieve this goal and to contribute to a better world for everyone.
